KNM-ER 406 - Australopithecus boisei
KMN-ER 406

Almost complete cranium of an Australopithecus Boisei. The dentition is represented by complete or partial roots only. the cranium has sagittal and nuchal crests, a well developed mastoid process, and a strikingly broad and robust face. The orbits are wider than they are high and the zygomatic arches are laterally flared. Capacity for the cranium was around 510 ml. This specimen was found in the Ileret member immediately below the Okote tuff in a deposit suggesting a shoreline environment.
